At AGL we see energy everywhere. In our environment. In people.
It inspires us to put our energy into sustainable projects, like our macadamia nut power generator on the Sunshine Coast, and another great project - our venture with ISIS Central Sugar Mills in Childers, Queensland.
The ISIS Central Sugar Mills facility is AGL’s first renewable cogeneration project to produce energy from sugar cane by-product (bagasse).
Creating energy from sugar cane is a three step process.
- Sugar cane by-product (bagasse) is burnt in a boiler.
- This process creates steam that is used to drive a turbine to generate clean, renewable electricity.
- This electricity is either used to power the factory or is exported to the national power grid.
The electricity exported to the grid is equivalent to powering around 1,800 Queensland homes or to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by the same amount as taking about 3,000 cars off the road each year.
The ISIS Central Sugar Mills generator is just one of the 29 renewable energy projects that AGL owns or operates around Australia. That’s cleaner energy. For our customers. For you.
