AGL welcomes Victorian Government’s fire preparation requirements
AGL Energy Limited (AGL) welcomes the Victorian Government’s new requirement for coal mine fire preparation, which will apply to mines in the Latrobe Valley, including the AGL Loy Yang mine.
Group General Manager Merchant Energy, Anthony Fowler, said it is critical the Latrobe Valley community has confidence in AGL Loy Yang’s coal mine fire suppression systems.
“The Government’s new requirements announced today enshrines and enhances AGL’s business-as-usual fire preparations as a licence requirement,” Mr Fowler said.
AGL continually invests in high-quality fire suppression systems, fire risk assessment procedures which are in place, and has a comprehensive rehabilitation program.
“AGL will continue to work closely with the Government and emergency agencies to ensure our activities are transparent and the local community is engaged in fire suppression planning processes,” said Mr Fowler.
The AGL Loy Yang mine provides the fuel for approximately half of Victoria’s electricity generation requirements.
