Community open day at AGL's Broken Hill solar plant attracts hundreds from around ther egion
Locals turned out in droves to AGL Energy Limited’s (AGL) Broken Hill solar plant on Sunday 22 May 2016 to explore one of Australia’s largest utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants.
The community open day, hosted by AGL and First Solar, saw more than 800 people turn up to learn more about renewable energy in their local community and see first-hand how the solar plant works.
AGL’s Broken Hill solar plant project manager Adam Mackett said the community open day was a huge success.
“We had over 650 people take a bus tour of the site, the local Lions club hosted a BBQ and served up some 800 sausages, plus the jumping castle, face painting and pony rides proved to be a big hit with the kids.
“Overall, it was a fantastic day and a great boost for local tourism. I also want to thank everyone who helped make the day truely a community event,” Mr Mackett said.
Local radio station 2DryFM also broadcasted live from the family-friendly event.
AGL built the 53 MW Broken Hill plant in western NSW, in partnership with the NSW Government, the Federal Government’s Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), the Broken Hill City Council and local community as well as project partner, First Solar.
