AGL supports Victorian Government TAKE2 Pledge on climate change
AGL Energy Limited (AGL) today announced it had signed on as a founding partner organisation for the Victorian Government’s TAKE2 Pledge program, which brings together Victorian businesses and communities to provide an opportunity to be part of Victoria’s action on climate change.
AGL joined Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio at the TAKE2 Pledge Action Day special event held today at the MCG to launch initiative.
As one of Victoria’s leading integrated energy companies, AGL is addressing both the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change.
AGL is committed to playing a leading role in developing a pathway to a modern, decarbonised electricity sector. Achievement of a fair and just transition requires broad, cross-sector engagement to develop innovative and sustainable industry, government, and community initiatives to address climate change.
AGL Head of Economic Policy and Sustainability, Tim Nelson, said AGL is proud to stand side by side with the Victorian Government as a founding partner of the TAKE2 initiative.
“We understand the challenges associated with emissions from the energy sector and that there are a range of views on what needs to be done. AGL actively seeks to engage with all stakeholders on ways to decarbonise our energy and economy,” he said.
AGL recently released the ‘Carbon Constrained Future - AGL’s approach to climate change mitigation: a scenario analysis’ report.’ This looks at AGL’s operations within a carbon constrained future, specifically a two degree pathway to decarbonisation. It also highlights activities being undertaken by AGL to reduce greenhouse gas emissions including a commitment to decarbonise its generation portfolio by 2050 and the launch of the Powering Australian Renewables Fund to generate investment in 1000MW of renewable energy.
