AGL Macquarie will be lighting up one of the Bayswater Power Station cooling towers to celebrate Diwali, this weekend.

Diwali, known as the festival of lights, is a five-day festival that coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrating new beginning and the triumph of lights over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.

During the celebration temples, homes, shops and office buildings are brightly illuminated.

Our Bayswater cooling tower will be transformed into a multi-coloured spectacle that will light up the nights sky from dusk until midnight.

General Manager AGL Macquarie Len McLachlan, said we are very proud of our culturally diverse workforce, and lighting one of our cooling towers is a great way to acknowledge and celebrate this.

“One of our company values is ‘Better Together’, which reflects our belief that a respectful and inclusive workplace embraces the diversity of our people,” Mr McLachlan said.

“We hope that illuminating our cooling tower allows our workforce and the community to feel part of the festive celebrations that are taking place across the country.

“We believe this weekend also provides a great opportunity for those not familiar with Diwali to learn about a new culture and embrace its meaning and colour.”

Our diversity demographics show that at least 30 percent of our people at AGL are born overseas and that collectively, the AGL workforce identify with more than 40 different cultures and are fluent in more than 22 languages.

The cooling tower will be lit from Friday 25 October to Sunday 27 October 2019.
