AGL drives EV subscription service into Brisbane
AGL today announced the expansion of its Electric Vehicle (EV) Subscription service to Brisbane, providing Queenslanders with the opportunity to experience the benefits of an EV without the commitment of ownership.
In partnership with car subscription service Carbar and charging supplier JET Charge, the pilot was recently launched in Sydney and Melbourne with strong interest and uptake.
AGL Executive General Manager Future Business & Technology, John Chambers, said he was excited to bring the service to Brisbane.
“Queensland is home to the world's longest electric super highway, which means EV drivers can travel with ease from Cairns to Coolangatta,” Mr Chambers said.
“Our customers are a driving force in our path to a cleaner energy future and we’re excited to be expanding to Brisbane as EVs grow in popularity across the country.
“We want to help customers navigate the shift to an electric vehicle and this service provides the flexibility to do so with the ability to swap, upgrade or cancel at any time.
“We are confident Brisbane drivers are eager to embrace this new service, with more than 300 expressions of interest in our first 90 days, across NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
“As part of AGL’s Climate Statement commitments, we want to help to make these vehicles a viable option for our customers - EVs are no longer a pipe dream for Australian families and subscription is a real alternative to ownership.”
AGL has expanded the range of EVs available as part of the service, with the addition of the MG eZS, Australia’s newest and most affordable electric vehicle. The new MG will complement AGL’s existing range of leading brands like Tesla and Nissan, with users getting access to registration, insurance, tyres, repairs, roadside assistance, installation of an EV charger and carbon neutral credits as part of the subscription.
The EV Subscription Service is being delivered as part of AGL Next, AGL’s home of innovation, piloting new programs, technologies and partnerships across energy, telecommunications, and beyond.
As the first Australian signatory to EV100, AGL has committed to making its own corporate fleet entirely electric by 2030. AGL has also partnered with ARENA on a $8.25 million EV charging trial, which aims to accelerate the commercialisation of different charging technologies, as well as exploring how an EV can be used to store energy and provide it back to the grid.
