AGL Energy (AGL) has revamped the Electric Vehicle (EV) Plan by offering cheaper charging overnight, providing EV drivers with a simple and affordable plan to charge at home.

Research from trials conducted with AGL customers in partnership with Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) over the past three years show that most home vehicle charging occurs overnight.

AGL launched the AGL Night Saver Energy Plan to provide customers a discounted offer at a time that has shown to suit them and sees customers pay a lower than off-peak rate between midnight and 6am.

Customers will also have the flexibility to charge at any time of the day and receive a discounted rate, recognising the importance of having a fully charged car to help alleviate range anxiety.

AGL Chief Customer Officer Jo Egan said the improved EV charging plan demonstrates AGL’s commitment to providing products and services to help drive the uptake of EVs and the electrification of transport.

“As a leader in the energy transition, we are evolving our products and services to ensure they are flexible, simple and suit our customers’ lifestyle. We know our customers charge while they sleep and we have remodelled our EV energy plan to give them an affordable price to charge at the most convenient time,” Ms Egan said.

For New South Wales customers who sign up for AGL’s Night Saver EV energy plan, AGL has an additional offer for customers to receive special charging rates at bp pulse rapid ultra-fast chargers as part of a partnership to help customers find a charge at home or on the go, with offers to be made available in other states shortly.

Ms Egan added that AGL is at the forefront of customer led EV energy product innovation, launching the first electric car subscription service in 2020, running the largest residential smart charging trial in Australia and partnering with global technology and energy providers like Kaluza and bp pulse to bring EV innovation to Australia.

“The AGL Night Saver EV Energy Plan is part of a suite of customer offers and trials that we have rolled out to help our customers make the switch to an EV and help decarbonise the way they live, move and work,” Ms Egan said.
