AGL named as leader on Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for sixth consecutive year
AGL Energy Limited (AGL) has been recognised as one of Australia's leading companies in disclosing its risks and opportunities related to climate change and greenhouse gas emissions for the sixth consecutive year.
AGL has been included on the Carbon Disclosure Project's Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) and was the only Australian utility to be named among the 24 Australian and New Zealand companies on the index.
This is a demonstration of AGL's leadership in the energy sector said Tim Nelson, AGL Head of Economic Policy & Sustainability.
"Effective management of climate change risk is central to everything AGL does.
"As the stationary energy sector is responsible for almost half of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions, AGL is at the forefront of disclosure and effective strategies to maximise value in a carbon constrained future.
"As Australia's leading integrated renewable energy company, AGL understands the need to manage and adjust to the impacts of climate change on every facet of our business," he said.
AGL has been commended by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which represents 655 institutional investors with $78 trillion in assets, for its approach to the disclosure of climate change information.
This index, a key component of CDP's annual Australia & NZ Climate Change Report, highlights the constituent companies within the ASX200 which have displayed a strong approach to information disclosure regarding climate change. Companies are scored on their climate change disclosure and high scores indicate good internal data management and understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company.
AGL is also a constituent company in the Asia Pacific Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI Asia Pacific), a constituent company in the Australian SAM Sustainability Index (AuSSI) and the FTSE4Good Index Series.
