AGL Energy Limited (AGL) demonstrated today that it continues to remain engaged with the community of Silverton, as the team met with locals and relevant authorities to present and discuss a draft Traffic Management Plan for the proposed Silverton Wind Farm.

The draft Traffic Management Plan outlines how the increased traffic, especially heavy vehicles during peak construction periods, would be managed for the proposed project to minimise any impacts on Silverton’s and Broken Hill’s traffic flow, livestock movements and its vital and vibrant tourism industry.

AGL' Manager Power Development, Neil Cooke, believes that gaining feedback from the community, Broken Hill Council and relevant authorities on the draft Traffic Management Plan is an important part of AGL’s community engagement program.

"We have consulted with the surrounding communities extensively prior to drafting this plan and look forward to again working together to ensure we come up with the best possible outcome for everyone.

"AGL understands the importance of minimising the impact of construction traffic and we are also proposing that heavy vehicles travelling to the project site up the Barrier Highway do not pass through Broken Hill," Mr Cooke said.

AGL's community engagement team will also join Mr Cooke at the Silverton Community Consultative Committee meeting later today to address questions the community may have about the proposed Silverton Wind Farm project.

AGL will make a decision about the viability of the proposed Silverton Wind Farm project once there is more certainty around the Australian Government's 2020 Renewable Energy Target, with another review of the scheme legislated to occur in 2014.
