AGL increases support for international skiing marathon
AGL today announced it is increasing scholarships for the leading finishers in the international cross-country skiing marathon, the Kangaroo Hoppet.
AGL Head of Renewables Simon Kelley said the AGL Energy Scholarships would increase from $500 to $1,000 per person for the first eight placegetters in the 2019 event to be held at Falls Creek on Saturday.
“AGL is delighted to support the things that the community loves and the Kangaroo Hoppet is a great example of that,” Mr Kelley said.
“We recognise that participating in top-flight sport comes at a financial cost, which is why we created scholarships that provide funds to assist with training and development.
“These scholarships are also a reward for the immense effort and dedication needed for these athletes to reach the top of their field.”
The Kangaroo Hoppet is the largest international snow sports event in the southern hemisphere, attracting more than 1,000 skiers.
Competitors ranging all the way from novices to Olympians and world champions will line up in the men’s and women’s events this year.
Since 2011 AGL has been an enthusiastic sponsor of the event.
AGL has multiple hydro power stations in the surrounding areas, including the largest in Victoria - the Kiewa Hydroelectric Scheme.
