Frequently asked questions about our nbn plans

AGL internet

You can add a Home Phone plan from $10 a month and make unlimited calls anywhere in Australia. You’ll need an AGL supplied TP-Link modem (no BYO modem with Home Phone plan). The minimum cost of this plan is $159 ($10/mth + $149 modem cost).

Our plans use VoIP technology, which stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. Basically, it allows you to make phone calls using your internet connection (just like when you use programs like Skype).

When you make calls with a traditional landline, you’re using a wired connection. With a home phone plan using VoIP, your conversation is transmitted digitally.

The speed of your internet connection depends on a number of factors including:

  • your type of connection, (FTTP, FTTC, FTTN, FTTB, FW or HFC)
  • modem quality
  • in-home cabling
  • distance between your modem and Wi-Fi devices
  • electrical and Wi-Fi channel interference
  • number of devices connected
  • FW (fixed wireless) connections can also be affected by cell congestion, distance from a fixed wireless tower and hot weather or heavy rain.

Check for outages

nbn outages and service issues can also affect your nbn speeds. Check the status of your service by visiting nbn outages and network status.

Modems and devices

Bringing your own modem

You can bring your own modem (BYO) if you're not connecting a home phone with us and your modem is:

  • compatible with the nbn network and your nbn connection type
  • not locked to another internet provider
  • capable of supporting the connection speeds for the plan you choose (otherwise you may experience slower speeds).

Buying a modem or device from us

Once you’ve chosen an AGL nbn plan and depending on your connection type, you can buy an eero modem or eero modem pack outright from $210 or a TP-Link modem outright for $149. Monthly payments over 12 or 24 months are also available at no extra cost. View Device Payment Plan terms.

Good to know

We do not offer eero devices to customers with Fibre to the Building (FTTB) or Fibre to the Node (FTTN) connection types, or to customers who have added a Home Phone service to their nbn plan. For these customers we offer the TP-Link VX230v.

AGL supplied modems are only available for purchase when you sign up to an AGL nbn plan. They can't be purchased separately.

Please refer to the table to see what modem and device is available.

Modems are available depending on your plan and connection type. If you’ve added a home phone service to your plan, you’ll receive a TP-Link modem.

You can purchase eero 6+ devices with Mesh Wi-Fi in packs of 2 or 3, depending on your connection type and the nbn plan you select.

Having multiple eero devices means they work together to send a reliable connection in every direction throughout your home, so you can avoid dropouts and dead zones.

2 devices covers homes up to 280m².

3 devices covers homes up to 420m².

Fibre upgrade

nbn co is currently rolling out a program in selected areas across Australia so that more customers get access to full fibre.

This means addresses connected to the nbn network via Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), may be eligible to upgrade their connection type to full fibre, also known as Fibre to the Premise (FTTP).

Upgrading to FTTP will give you access to a more reliable network and higher speed plans, which means you can do more online with less interruptions, including:

  • have multiple people online at the same time
  • work from home and make video calls
  • stream high-definition video (4K)
  • play online games

Are you eligible for a fibre upgrade?

To check your eligibility simply enter your address at the top of the page.

If you’re eligible, we’ll automatically let you know your connection type and if a fibre upgrade is available.

Fibre upgrade installation process

If you order a plan with a fibre upgrade, we’ll arrange an appointment with an nbn technician so they can start the installation process.

Your first appointment usually takes place within 7 days of your order.

You’ll receive an SMS within an hour of your order with all the details of your first appointment and how to reschedule it. If you miss an appointment, you may incur a fee.

Someone over the age of 18 will need to be home at the time.

Learn more about the installation process.

NBN Co may choose to charge a $220 cancellation/downgrade fee if:

  • you downgrade to a plan with speeds below our Home Fast plan within 12 months.
  • you cancel your nbn connection within 12 months including, for example, moving house.

Learn more in schedule 2 of our customer terms.
