Meter identification numbers: NMI, MIRN, DPI
Electricity and gas meter numbers help connect the right information to your account so you only pay for what you use.
National Meter Identifier (NMI)
Every connection to the national electricity network is given its own identification number - the National Meter Identifier (NMI). You'll need this number if you change your electricity retailer.
The NMI is used to:
- identify your supply address
- identify the meters and meter types at your connected address
- make sure you're billed for the right amount of energy.
Meter Identification Reference Number (MIRN)
If you live in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia or Western Australia, your gas meter number is called your Meter Identification Reference Number (MIRN).
Your MIRN can be found on the top of Page 1 of your gas bill in the 'Your details' section. It should also be on your gas meter. You can get help finding your bill and set up how you receive your bills at Billing options.
Delivery Point Identifier (DPI)
If you live in New South Wales, your gas meter number is called your Delivery Point Identifier (DPI). Your DPI can be found on the top of Page 1 of your gas bill in the 'Your details' section'. It should also be on your gas meter. You can get help finding your bill and set up how you receive your bills at Billing options.
