Welcome to Peak Energy Rewards

What is Peak Energy Rewards?

When there's increased demand on the electrical grid, we'll invite you to participate in a 1-3 hour peak event and shift your home energy use.

We’ll set a personalised target for you to meet by making small adjustments to when you run your home appliances. If you succeed, you’ll earn an electricity bill credit.

Things you should know

To be eligible to participate, you need to:

  • have an active AGL electricity or solar plan
  • have a digital ‘smart meter’ installed on your property. Not sure if you have one? Contact us
  • be located in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia or Queensland
  • be a residential owner or tenant responsible for the electricity supply at your address
  • provide marketing consent for both email and SMS.

For more information, view the Peak Energy Rewards Terms & Conditions.

Energy savings are measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh), which is a unit of energy that measures your home’s electricity use in an hour.

You’ll be rewarded with bill credits if your electricity use is lower than your reduction target during the event.

These targets are determined before each event and are based on your existing energy usage data. The targets we set will change from event to event, based on your energy use at home.

If you have an active solar plan with AGL, you can also participate in peak events. We might ask you to export your solar panel energy instead of switching off appliances.

Peak Energy Rewards is a demand response program. This means when there’s increased demand on the electrical grid, we’ll invite you to temporarily shift or reduce home energy consumption. Demand response helps balance energy demand, improve grid stability and could even impact energy prices.

Peak events are unplanned and can take place anytime throughout the day, often triggered by extreme weather conditions or energy supply constraints. Shifting energy use during these periods helps us to manage peak demand and the risks it causes, such as power outages.
