AGL Energy Limited (AGL) has advised that a major refurbishment of the West Kiewa Power Station from 26 March to 30 July 2013 will require the Mt Beauty Regulating Pondage to be lowered to its minimum operating level for the next two month, to enable essential maintenance works in the tailrace channel and tunnel.

It is expected that the pondage will be at the minimum level between mid-April and mid-June 2013.

Signage will be installed around the lake advising that there is no public access to the drained area of the lake and the tailrace channel.

The impact on fish and crayfish in the pondage will be closely monitored.

Local residents are reminded that a closed season exists for the Murray spiny freshwater crayfish from 1 September to 30 April and that bag and size limits apply outside of these dates. Further details can be obtained from the Department of Primary Industries Fisheries website.
