AGL Energy Limited (AGL) has provided a significant boost to the NSW Rural Fire Service’s (RFS) firefighting and emergency support capabilities across Penrith, Blacktown and Fairfield with a donation of two large power generators capable of powering entire fire stations in times of power outages or extreme weather conditions.

AGL Head of Economic Policy & Sustainability, Tim Nelson, said the donation of two Honda EU65is generators, worth more than $25,000, reflects AGL’s commitment to supporting local communities.

“Being able to help make a real difference to the Rural Fire Services’ firefighting and emergency support capabilities, particularly on the eve of what’s predicted to be a long hot summer, is something we are happy and proud to be able to do,” said Mr Nelson.

AGL representatives presented the two generators to RFS firefighters recently, where they were immediately transferred to the RFS Cumberland Zone office at Regentville.

RFS Superintendent Richard Petch, Fire Control Officer, Cumberland Zone, said they are immensely grateful to AGL for their generous donation.

“We have never had generators of this size in our possession and it will make the world of difference in our support capabilities, not just in fighting fires, but in our ability to support all emergency services and the community in times of crisis,” said Supt. Petch.

“These generators are capable of powering entire fire stations in times of crisis and can be plugged into our trucks when fighting fires and when assisting police and other emergency services at accident sites. Basically these generators will make a big difference to our operational capabilities.

“A big thank you to AGL for this generous donation. They’ll be put to good use, I can assure you that.”
