AGL Energy Limited (AGL) today welcomed Minister for Energy, Lily D’Ambrosio to officially open its new Melbourne office at 699 Bourke Street.

AGL’s 1,500 Melbourne-based employees will work at the new Mirvac Group (Mirvac) building which is an A-Grade 6-Star Green Star rated office building that boasts an impressive 90 kW rooftop solar system, the largest solar power system on a commercial office in Melbourne, and an 80,000 litre rainwater catchment system. It covers 20,000 square meters and sits on top of an elevated platform that rises from the iconic curves of the Southern Cross Station rooftop.

AGL Managing Director & CEO, Andy Vesey, said: “The selection of a building with 6-Star Green Star rating was an important consideration for us and aligns with our own commitment to decarbonisation and investment in renewable energy.

“We have worked closely with Mirvac and our employees over the last 18 months to ensure the design and layout of the building improves the productivity and collaboration of our employees to meet the changing needs of our customers. The state-of-the-art activity based working facilities give us the flexibility to organise, connect and adapt teams to deliver a great customer experience now and in the future.”

AGL also increased the number of bicycle racks and sports lockers to ensure it could cater for the large number of employees who cycle-commute or exercise at some time during their work day.

“We are delighted to be able to offer our employees a new custom-built office that is in a great location with superior transport links and a high quality building design,” said Mr Vesey.

The building’s rooftop solar system will generate approximately 110,000 kWh of electricity a year and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by around 145 tonnes of C02 every year.

AGL has signed a long-term lease agreement for an initial 10 years with Mirvac, the owner and operator of the building. The building was designed by Grimshaw Architects.
