AGL major sponsor of 2015 Burra Country Music Festival
AGL Energy Limited (AGL) is proud to be the major sponsor of this weekend’s Burra AGL Country Music Festival to be held at the Burra Showground. This is the second consecutive year AGL has been involved with the event.
The three day festival, which kicks off on Friday night, will feature nationally acclaimed country music bands and solo artists as well as poetry, choirs and line dancing.
AGL General Manager for Gas & Renewables, Sarah McLeod said AGL has been supporting the Burra community for more than five years with the construction and now operation of the Hallett Wind Farm.
“We hope this year’s event builds on the success of last year and helps to bolster tourism, providing an economic boost for the local community. AGL has been sponsoring music and the arts in the region for some time. It started with ‘Jazz in the Mine’ around five years ago which then became known as the ‘Monster Mine Spectacular’. In addition we have sponsored the ‘Burra AGL Country Music Festival’ for the last two years.
“During the last five years AGL has also proudly supported the community through sponsoring various community activities such as the Burra Fun Run, now an annual event, and the historic rally car races through our wind farms.
“We also have the AGL Hallett Community Fund, which has been running for five years. So far we have allocated more than $500,000 through community funding which has supported a variety of projects undertaken by local groups such as the Hallett Mount Brian Play Centre, the Spalding Amateur Swimming Club and the Hallett Bowling Club, said Ms McLeod.
This year’s festival will also host a free music workshop for budding young musicians. There will also be food stalls, dancing and entertainment for children including face painting.
