AGL Macquarie welcomes 18 new first year apprentices
AGL Macquarie is pleased to welcome 18 new first year apprentices.
The successful apprentices were selected from hundreds of applicants and appointed across the electrical, mechanical and metal fabrication trades.
The total number of apprentices working at Liddell and Bayswater power stations in 2017 will now be 66, maintaining AGL Macquarie as one of the largest employers of apprentices in the Hunter region of NSW.
AGL Macquarie Acting General Manager Barry Millar said attracting young people to the electricity industry is important for AGL.
“Our industry is entering a period of transition and we need young people with drive and ambition to embrace the future.
“The next generation of young AGL employees have the opportunity to build exciting and rewarding careers in a dynamic and changing industry.
“AGL is proud to continue the tradition of training young people at Liddell and Bayswater power stations and I welcome our new apprentices to our business,” said Mr Millar.
Meeting together for the first time at Liddell power station this week, the new apprentices started their careers with a two day induction and orientation program.
The induction program introduced the apprentices to AGL Macquarie, the electricity industry and to the importance of health and safety in the workplace.
They met a range of senior managers, employees and current apprentices and learnt about everything from payroll systems to safe and responsible driving.
They were also inducted into the Apprentice Workshop, which is home base for the first nine months of their apprenticeship.
As part of their induction process the 2017 apprentices were given their first uniforms, personal protective equipment and new toolkits.
“Our new apprentices will work and train at both Liddell and Bayswater over the next four years and gain experience in a great business.
“AGL has operated for over 175 years and our new apprentices are joining a business that is proud to supply energy to customers connected to the National Energy Market,” Mr Millar said.
