The Gloucester Region will benefit from a new Long Day Care Service, and 14 new jobs, under the latest grant from the AGL-established Gloucester Independent Community Legacy Fund.

AGL Executive General Manager Stakeholder Relations, Lisa Harrington, says the Gloucester Pre-School is the fifth grant recipient under the GICLF’s first round of funding.

“AGL established the $2 million fund this year to identify, and allocate funding toward, initiatives that bring sustainable economic benefit or education and employment pathways to the greater Gloucester region.

“We are delighted that the funding of this project not only will deliver 14 new local jobs but provide much needed new Long Day Care places for children aged zero to six years old,” Ms Harrington said.

GICLF chair, Tanya Cameron says grant recipient, Gloucester Pre-School, was established in 1972 as a community-based not-for-profit provider of care for children aged three to five.

“In their funding application, it was demonstrated how the service has grown continually to a five day service with up to 49 children enrolled.

“With the new Early Years Learning Centre, 80 percent operation capacity would deliver 14 permanent full-time jobs and provide work experience opportunities for local students.

“An additional benefit will be the establishment of a free workspace for an Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer to provide programs and support for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in the region,” Ms Cameron said.
