AGL Energy Limited (AGL) invites members of the community to attend drop-in information sessions to assist those interested in making a submission to the Cooopers Gap Wind Farm Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

AGL’s Coopers Gap Wind Farm project manager, Neil Cooke, said the EIS is currently on public exhibition until 7 November this year.

“I would like to encourage attendance to these sessions as they are a great opportunity to meet the project team, learn more about the project and ask questions.

“Making a submission is your chance to have your say and provide valuable feedback on the project to help inform the development of the EIS,” Mr Cooke said.

The first community drop-in information session will be held today directly following the Coopers Gap Wind Farm Community Consultative Committee (CCC) meeting, which will be held at the Cooranga North Memorial Hall, Cooranga-Niagara Road, Cooranga North from 1pm to 3pm.

“We are working towards a final decision being made on whether the project proceeds to construction. In the meantime we are happy with how planning is progressing. Other factors yet to be considered include results of the tender, the final scope of the project, further development activities and financing arrangements,” explained Mr Cooke.

As well as today’s session, a further community drop-in information session will be held on Saturday 15 October, 9am-1pm, Bell Bunya Community Centre, 71 Maxwell Street, Bell.

The EIS can be viewed online at http://www.statedevelopment.qld.gov.au/assessments-and-approvals/current-eis-projects.html and it will also be on display at the Western Downs Libraries at Bell, Chinchilla, Dalby and Jandowae, as well as the South Burnett Libraries in Blackbutt, Kingaroy, Nanango, Wondai and Proston. 

The Coopers Gap Wind Farm is proposed to have approximately 100 turbines, which would produce around 1,100 GWh of renewable energy, powering more than 190,000 average Australian homes. The renewable energy produced would reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 860,000 tonnes annually, which is the equivalent of taking over 250,000 cars off the road.
