AGL celebrates International Women's Day launching AGL Equality
AGL Energy is today hosting events at its sites around Australia to celebrate International Women’s Day and re-launch its AGL Equality program to acknowledge the role everyone can play to drive gender equality.
Managing Director and CEO and Male Champions of Change member, Andy Vesey, said gender equality is a priority for the company.
“Having a workforce that reflects the diversity of the customers we serve, and communities in which we operate, enhances our engagement with our customers.”
“It also helps us to be a better business. We know that when our people feel free to express their views and are encouraged to be their authentic selves, they are happier and more productive,” Mr Vesey explained.
AGL Equality replaces AGL NoW (Network of Women), which was established in 2010 to support women across the organisation to meet and learn together, and increase awareness of the challenges women can face as they progress their careers.
AGL Equality will broaden its focus and membership, bringing together women and men passionate about striving for gender equality.
Chief Financial Officer and Executive Sponsor of AGL Equality, Brett Redman said the NoW program played an important role in driving the great progress AGL has made toward genuine gender equality but there's still more work to do.
“Through a range of engagement and advocacy activities and initiatives, AGL Equality will harness the passion and energy of a broader group of gender equality champions,” said Mr Redman.
Mr Vesey added: “We will focus on attracting and developing women, and play an active role in advocating for equal recognition and opportunities.”
Currently, women make up 34 percent of AGL’s Senior Leadership Pipeline. AGL’s target is 40 percent by 30 June 2019.
