For AGL Loy Yang’s Shane Mitchell knowing AGL had a program that supported inclusiveness and diversity in the work place was very important when he started working at the energy company.

A senior Communications Business Partner and member of AGL’s LGBTI inclusion network called Shine, Mr Mitchell last night joined other AGL Loy Yang employees at an art event at arc Yinnar to show their support for International Day Against Homophobia Transphobia & Biphobia (IDAHOT).

The IDAHOT event, also attended by AGL friends and family and Latrobe City mayor Kellie O’Callaghan, was held to celebrate diversity and the recognition of human rights for all people.

AGL’s Shine network was established in 2012 to create an environment where all members of the LGBTI community, parents, friends and allies feel supported.

IDAHOT was created in 2004 to draw attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by LGBTI people.

Doug Jackson, AGL Shine Sponsor and Executive General Manager Group Operations, said that recognising days of significance like IDAHOT is crucial to building a workplace that is safe and supportive of all of our people.

“We want to ensure all of our people feel comfortable being their true self at work, whatever their sexual orientation or gender identity.”

“From the recent launch of our Gender Identity and Transitioning Support Guidelines, to our ongoing vocal support of marriage equality, AGL is committed to actively advocating for LGBTI rights,” Mr Jackson said.
