AGL is pleased to announce it has executed a contract for the supply of a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) for its proposed Gas Import Jetty project at Crib Point.

The agreement, a long-term charter from Hoegh LNG, is conditional on a final investment decision and regulatory approvals.

The AGL Gas Import Jetty project proposes to import LNG in order to increase gas supply and help lower prices for families and businesses.

Assessing the impacts of the vessel is a requirement of the Environmental Effects Statement (EES) that is currently underway.

AGL General Manager Energy Supply & Origination, Phaedra Deckart, said this is an important milestone.

“This is a big step for the project and we are pleased to enter into this agreement with Hoegh LNG, an industry leader in operation of modern, floating LNG import terminals, with more than 40 years’ LNG shipping industry experience,” Ms Deckart said.

“These FRSUs are highly sophisticated in nature with a range of monitoring functions and protections in place for safe and reliable operations, making them ideal for the project.

“The likely vessel Hoegh Giant is a modern, sophisticated vessel, having been constructed last year by Hyundai Heavy Industries.

“AGL is committed to addressing Australia’s tightening gas supply situation and we believe the AGL Gas Import Jetty will increase certainty around supply and put downward pressure on prices.”
