An educational scholarship for a young adult from the Latrobe Valley whose gender identity or sexual orientation has hindered their career aspirations, will now be on offer thanks to AGL and the Pinnacle Foundation.

The Pinnacle Foundation is a charity organisation that empowers young LGBTIQ+ Australians to achieve their full potential through educational scholarships and mentoring.

Pinnacle Foundation CEO Andrew Staite said the organisation was “delighted to enter into a partnership with AGL to provide educational opportunities for the Latrobe Valley community.

We know that many young LGBTIQ+ people face significant societal and educational challenges – especially from rural and regional communities,” Mr Staite said.

AGL General Manager Coal Operations Steve Rieniets said AGL was proud to sponsor a three-year scholarship program with Pinnacle which would be open to students from the Latrobe Valley region.

At AGL one of our values is ‘better together’ and this collaboration supports this by being respectful and inclusive of all and supporting the community in which we operate by breaking down barriers and working together,” Mr Rieniets said.

We encourage young LGBTIQ+ people in the Latrobe Valley to apply for this scholarship which will allow them to study at a higher education institution to achieve educational or vocational qualifications in any profession, trade or the arts.

Scholars will also be matched with mentors through the Pinnacle Foundation who share the same academic and professional interests, gender identity, sexual orientation or sexual characteristics.

Scholarships are now open with applications closing 15th September. For details visit www.thepinnaclefoundation.org
