To mark the Hindu New Year, this weekend AGL will light up a Bayswater cooling tower to celebrate the Indian Festival of Lights, Diwali.

Diwali signifies the triumph of light over darkness or good over evil and is celebrated by the Hindu community right across the world.

AGL Head of Generation at Liddell, Seth Pathiyil moved from India to Australia in 2003 and for his family and the wider Hindu community in the Hunter region, this is a very special time of year.

“It’s a time to celebrate new beginnings and renew our hope in the year ahead,” Mr Pathiyil said.

“It’s a real testament to AGL to see this festival celebrated again this year, as well as the company’s commitment to embracing diversity, care and inclusiveness in every action.

“There is no doubt 2020 has challenged all of us, particularly in regional communities which have been severely impacted by drought, bushfires and the pandemic.

“I hope that no matter your background, this weekend allows all of us to come together and hope for a brighter 2021.

“I have been so touched, as have many in the community by AGL’s commitment to share this festival with not just my fellow colleagues but the wider community too.

“I am very proud of my heritage and this festival reminds us to shine a light on the importance of integrity, compassion and selflessness and to share this wonderful spirit with my colleagues is incredibly meaningful.”

AGL is encouraging the community to drive past the site over the weekend to see the lights and celebrate Diwali. The light show will run from Friday 13th November to Sunday 15th November.
