AGL powers diversity with gender-neutral titles
AGL has introduced the gender neutral Mx (pronounced “Mix”) for customers when they engage with AGL online, on the phone or on MyAccount app.
AGL has successfully petitioned the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) to introduce the gender-neutral title for customers in the National Electricity Market (NEM), with all generators, retailers and distributors able to implement the initiative to ensure non-binary customers can chose the title they identify with.
Championed by AGL Shine – an employee driven network established to contribute to building an inclusive and supportive workplace for LGBTQ+ employees at AGL – the initiative will support AGL’s ambition of reaching ‘Platinum Status’ in the Australian Workplace Equality Index.
AGL Chief Customer Officer, and Executive Sponsor of Shine, Jo Egan said AGL is proud to have led this important initiative as it will ensure non-binary people have the title and gender option that reflects their gender identity.
“AGL is proud to have introduced gender neutral language that will support our non-binary customers and help them to feel welcome, safe and included,” Ms Egan said.
“It is a testament to AGL’s commitment to diversity and inclusion that we successfully campaigned AEMO to include gender-neutral language for customers, along with other existing prefixes, which will ensure everyone is recognised the way they should be across the NEM.”
On AGL’s ambition to reach ‘Platinum Status’ in the Workplace Equality Index, Ms Egan said the successful implementation of this program is an important step forward as AGL continues to lead positive change for customers, industry and employees.
