The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is proposing to automate the process for Metering Coordinators when applying for a Metering Installation Exemption.
While AGL is generally a strong proponent of reforms that move away from manual intervention towards automation, as part of the Australian Energy Market Commission’s Review into the regulatory framework for metering services, it is proposed that the metering installation exemption process is removed entirely from the regulatory framework to accelerate the roll out of smart meters in the National Energy Customer Framework jurisdiction.
AGL recommends that AEMO await the outcome of the AEMC’s Review later this year to avoid incurring costs for automating a process that will ultimately be removed by 2025.
