AEMC Removing the AERs obligation to update and administer the Electricity Consumption Benchmark

The Australian Energy Regulator has put forward a rule change through the Australian Energy Market Commission to remove its three yearly obligation to update and administer Electricity Consumption Benchmarks. This follows the removal of the requirement for retailers to display the consumption benchmarks on small customers’ bills under the Better Bills Guideline.

As electricity consumption benchmarks are no longer required to be displayed on bills in the National Energy Customer Framework jurisdiction, noting the time, resources and financial burden on the AER and industry associated with updating the benchmarks, and the limited utilitarian value, AGL supports the AER’s rule change request.
