AEMC’s draft rule determination – Bringing early works forward to improve transmission planning – National Electricity Amendment Rule 2024

AGL is supportive of the AEMC’s draft rule determination for new transmission infrastructure, emphasising its crucial role in Australia’s Net Zero transition. The introduction of a clear definition for ‘early works’ aims to reduce confusion and improve cost accuracy for Integrated System Plan projects. This clarity, alongside new principles in the National Electricity Rules for evaluating early works projects, should lead to better consumer outcomes by ensuring that only beneficial projects receive approval. AGL believes these measures should enhance both project delivery and consumer protection while providing transmission network service providers with necessary certainty given the evolving regulatory landscape.
