View setup instructions and connect a D-Link, ASUS or Netgear modem device to your AGL nbn® plan.

Before you start

Know your connection type

How you set up your modem device will depend on the type of nbn connection at your property. We can tell you your connection type when you enter your address on our website.

We offer six types of nbn connections around Australia. These connection types can affect the speeds that are available to you.

  • Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
  • Fibre to the Node (FTTN)
  • Fibre to the Curb (FTTC)
  • Fibre to the Building (FTTB)
  • Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial (HFC)
  • Fixed Wireless

What you’ll need

  • BYO modem device
  • Power adapter
  • nbn connection box - If your connection type is FTTP, FTTC, HFC or Fixed Wireless, this will connect your modem to the nbn network.
  • Ethernet cable - This comes with most modems and is the cable you’d use to plug your PC, PlayStation or other consoles into your modem device.
  • DSL cable - This comes with most modems and if you have a home phone plan, this is the cable you’d use to connect your modem device.

 

 

Set up a D-Link modem

D-Link AX Connect AX1800

If your connection type is FTTB or FTTN:

1. Find the telephone wall socket at your property.
2. Plug one end of your DSL cable into your modem device.
3. Plug the other end of the DSL cable into your telephone wall socket.

If your connection type is FTTP, FTTC, HFC and Fixed Wireless:

1. Make sure your nbn connection box is turned on.
2. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the UNID port on the nbn connection box
3. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the modem device.

Now you’re ready to connect:

4. Plug the modem device into a power adaptor and turn on the modem device.
5. Connect to your computer or mobile device using Wi-Fi or the Ethernet cable. You’ll find the default network name (SSID) and Wi-Fi password printed on the modem device.
6. Open a browser on your device and go to http://192.168.0.1.
7. To set up your modem device, follow the instructions on screen.
8. When you see the Configure your Internet Connection page, select DHCP Connection (Dynamic IP Address).

D-Link DSL-245GE

If your connection type is FTTB or FTTN:

1. Find the telephone wall socket at your property.
2. Plug one end of your DSL cable into your modem device
3. Plug the other end of the DSL cable into your telephone wall socket.

If your connection type is FTTP, FTTC, HFC and Fixed Wireless:

1. Make sure your nbn connection box is turned on.
2. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the UNID port on the nbn connection box
3. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the modem device.

Now you’re ready to connect:

3. Plug the modem device into a power adaptor and turn on the modem device.
4. Connect to your computer or mobile device using Wi-Fi or the Ethernet cable. You’ll find the default network name (SSID) (SSID) and Wi-Fi password printed on the modem device.
5. Open a browser on your device and go to http://192.168.1.1.
6. You’ll be prompted to log in. You can find the default admin username and password printed on the modem device.
7. To set up your modem device, follow the instructions on screen.
8. When you reach the ISP Settings page, type 0 next to the VLAN ID field and select:

  • VDSL if you connection type is FTTB or FTTN.
  • Ethernet if your connection type is FTTP, FTTC, HFC and Fixed Wireless.

8. When you see the Configure your Internet Connection page, select DHCP Connection (Dynamic IP Address).

Set up an ASUS modem

ASUS DSL-AX82U

If your connection type is FTTB or FTTN:

1. Find the telephone wall socket at your property.
2. Plug one end of your DSL cable into your modem device
3. Plug the other end of the DSL cable into your telephone wall socket.

If your connection type is FTTP, FTTC, HFC and Fixed Wireless:

1. Make sure your nbn connection box is turned on.
2. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the UNID port on the nbn connection box
3. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the modem device.

Asus DSL AX82U AX5400 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 Modem Router

 

Now you’re ready to connect:

4. Plug the modem device into a power adaptor and turn on the modem device.
5. Connect to your computer or mobile device using Wi-Fi or the Ethernet cable. You’ll find the default network name (SSID) and Wi-Fi password printed on the modem device.
6. Open a browser on your device and go to http://router.asus.com or http://192.168.1.1.
7. Log in using the default username and password.

a. Default username: admin
b. Default password: admin

8. To set up your modem device, follow the instructions on screen.
9. When you reach the Internet Connection page, select:
Automatic IP if your connection type is FTTP, FTTC, HFC or Fixed Wireless.
PPPoE if your connection type is FTTB or FTTN. You’ll also need to enter a username and password here, we can provide for you. Contact us.

ASUS TUF A6000
The ASUS TUF A6000 device is not compatible with FTTB and FTTN connection types.

1. Make sure your nbn connection box is turned on.
2. Connect the Ethernet cable from The UNID port on the nbn connection box to the WAN port on the modem device.
3. Connect the modem device to a power adaptor and turn on the modem device.

4. Connect to your computer or mobile device using Wi-Fi or the Ethernet cable. You’ll find the default network name (SSID) and Wi-Fi password printed on the modem device.
5. Open a browser on your device and go to http://router.asus.com or http://192.168.1.1.
6. Log in using the default username and password.

a. Default username: admin
b. Default password: admin

7. To set up your modem device, follow the instructions on screen.
8. When you reach the Internet Connection page, if you’re using
Automatic IP if your connection type is FTTP, FTTC, HFC or Fixed Wireless.
9. PPPoE if your connection type is FTTB or FTTN. You’ll also need to enter a username and password here, which we can provide for you. Contact us.

Set up a Netgear modem

Netgear Nighthawk AX8

The Netgear Nighthawk AX8 device is not compatible with FTTB and FTTN connection types.

1. Make sure your nbn connection box is turned on.
2. If your modem device includes any antennas, attach them to the modem device.
3. Connect the Ethernet cable from The UNID port on the nbn connection box to the WAN port on the modem device.

Now you’re ready to connect:

4. Plug the modem device into a power adaptor and turn on the modem device.
5. Download the Nighthawk app to set up and manage your modem device.

Netgear Orbi Dual Band Mesh WiFi 6

If your connection type is FTTB or FTTN:

  1. Find the telephone wall socket at your property.
  2. Plug one end of your DSL cable into your modem device
  3. Plug the other end of the DSL cable into your telephone wall socket.

If your connection type is FTTP, FTTC, HFC and Fixed Wireless:

  1. Make sure your nbn connection box is turned on.
  2. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the UNID port on the nbn connection box
  3. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN port on the modem device.

Now you’re ready to connect:

  1. Plug the modem device into a power adaptor and turn on the modem device.
  2. Download and follow the steps on the Orbi app and set up and manage your modem device.
