Check if you’re eligible

Households

All residential households with an active electricity account are eligible to receive a rebate in the 2024–25 financial year.

Businesses

To be eligible your business must:

  • be on a separately metered business tariff
  • use less electricity than the yearly threshold set for your state. The thresholds are:
    • New South Wales - 100MWh
    • Queensland - 100MWh
    • South Australia - 160MWh
    • Victoria - 40MWh.

Each business customer can only receive one payment, even if you have more than one business or site.

How much you’ll get, if eligible

Households - up to $300 in quarterly instalments credited to your electricity account.

Businesses - up to $325 in quarterly instalments credited to your electricity account.

Please note: Residential and small business customers in Queensland are eligible for this rebate, as well as the Queensland Cost of Living Rebate ($1,000 lump sum payment) or Small Business Rebate ($325 lump sum payment).

For more information, visit your state government website:

How and when payments are applied

For most households and businesses, relief payments are applied directly to your electricity account so there’s nothing you need to do.

If you’re a household or business on an embedded network, how your relief payment is paid depends on your state.

If you’re in an embedded network

Residential

  • New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria - we’re waiting on more information from state governments on how these payments will be applied to embedded networks.

How to check if your bill relief has been paid

To check we’ve applied your bill relief payment, look in the ‘Understand your bill’ section of your bill.

  • For residential customers it will appear under ‘Previous balance and payments’.
  • For business customers it will appear under ‘New charges and credits’, under ‘Credits’.

You can also view your bill in My Account or the AGL app.

We’re working with the Australian Energy Regulator to finalise dates and will look to share with you as soon as these are confirmed.

The Queensland Cost of Living Rebate and/or Small Business Rebate payment will appear on your first invoice after 1 July 2024.
