Virtual Power Plant

Join our Virtual Power Plant and save

Our Virtual Power Plant (VPP) helps you save, with bill credits or discounts on solar batteries and bundles.

What’s a Virtual Power Plant (VPP)?

A VPP is a network of solar batteries that work together when the grid needs extra energy, just like a power plant. By drawing a limited amount of energy from each battery, the VPP creates a large pool of energy that can be shared.

Get peace of mind with your power

The VPP occasionally manages your solar battery, which could mean increases to your bill – we estimate by no more than $50 (GST incl.) every 12 months.  Plus, we'll always ensure there's energy left to help power your home.

Your warranty and VPP

Each manufacturer warranty deals with VPP participation differently, so please read your solar battery warranty for guidance.

Important things to know

1Customers bringing their own eligible battery to the AGL VPP get a one-off sign-up bonus of $100 in NSW, SA and VIC, and a one-off sign-up bonus of $450 in QLD. Customers will receive quarterly credits towards their AGL electricity bills as long as they remain connected to the AGL VPP, with quarterly credits of $45 in NSW, QLD, VIC and quarterly credits of $70 in SA. See VPP Terms and Conditions (PDF) for more details.

2Discount off upfront costs of $1,000 for NSW, QLD, VIC households and $1,500 for SA households, for customers who buy a new solar battery or solar battery bundle through AGL or one of our third-party installers, when signing up to our VPP for 5 years. You're free to switch your electricity plan at any time. However, you must be on an AGL electricity plan in order to connect and stay connected to our VPP. If you leave AGL during the 5-year term, you must pay back the upfront AGL discount you received in proportion to how much of your 5-year membership has transpired (on a pro rata basis). See VPP Terms and Conditions (PDF) for more details. Offer is limited. AGL reserves the right to extend the offer and the offer may be subject to change or expiry without notice.

3For all eligibility criteria to join VPP, see section 4(b) of VPP Terms and Conditions (PDF).

4Electrify Now™ is currently not available to users in the Northern Territory or Western Australia and restrictions may apply for customers with certain meter/tariff types. For the online version (not AGL app), you’ll be offered an option to either calculate your estimates based on an electricity bill, or share your data using the Consumer Data Right (CDR), if we’re able to access your CDR data from your retailer. See FAQs for more.
