AGL supports the review by the ESC of the Charter of Consultation, particularly in light of the significant program of work occurring on energy reform.

Proper and productive consultation with stakeholders is imperative to positive consumer outcomes. We would like the Charter to a provide clarity on:

  • How and when consultation will occur
  • The approach the Commission will take to regulatory options
  • The expectations of a regulator's responsibility and commitment to meaningful consultation
  • Outline the behaviours stakeholders should expect from the Commission, which should be in line with best practice consultation and regulation principles

We look forward to working with the Commission to develop a Charter that provides clear principles, rules of engagement and performance reporting. All critical to ensuring productive engagement that results in regulatory reform that are relevant and contemporary, and which promote an efficient and effective energy sector with long term consumer benefits.
