As an essential service provider, a large ASX-listed employer and a visible member of the communities in which we operate, we are unequivocally committed to diversity and inclusion.
“As one of our four core company values, diversity and inclusion or the principle of ‘Inclusive of all’ contributes to how AGL delivers our strategy, programs and projects and it ensures that we continue to perform and deliver for our customers, communities and stakeholders in a challenging environment.”
We welcome all and harness our diversity through trust and respect for one another.
AGL awarded with Gold for LGBTI inclusion
For the second year in a row, AGL was awarded the prestigious Gold Employer status for LGBTI inclusion, announced at the 2018 Australian LGBTI Inclusion Awards last week. It places AGL in the top 12 highest performing organisations nationally and a leader in our industry.
“This is a fantastic achievement for AGL and recognises the substantial work of AGL in raising the bar and being a leader in workplace inclusion. There was an unprecedented 135 submissions this year so there was broad recognition of LGBTI inclusive practice across all sectors,” said Richard Wrightson, AGL Shine Sponsor and Executive General Manager Wholesale Markets.
“I’m very proud of the efforts and dedication of our AGL Shine network, our Diversity and Inclusion team, and our allies across the business who passionately advocate and champion LGBTI inclusion.
“This result demonstrates that we truly are Inclusive of all.”
How we got there
The Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) is a rigorous, evidence-based benchmarking instrument that assesses workplaces in the work and impact of their LGBTI inclusion initiatives across all sectors and businesses including government, corporate, small business and not-for-profit.
“The award recognises the steady progress we’ve made over a relatively short period of time and our advocacy on issues important to our LGBTI people, our customers and the community,” said Sophie Halse, Group Manager, Diversity and Inclusion.
AGL was rated one of the best performing new entrants in 2015, was awarded Silver in 2016 and won Gold in 2017.
“AGL Shine is our internal LGBTI network tasked with creating a welcoming and inclusive culture where everyone feels valued, safe and can perform at their best. This means people feeling comfortable bringing their whole selves to work and not having to self-edit a part of their identity,” said James Bruce, Head of Finance Investments & New Business and Chair of AGL Shine.
“It has been a big year for us so far – we publicly advocated for Marriage Equality, proudly participated and supported Mardi Gras, Mardi Gras Film Festival, Midsummer Festival, The Broken Heel Festival, Wear It Purple Day and Adelaide’s Feast Festival, and we initiated the inaugural Gippsland Pride Cup but we recognise there’s still more to do.
