The National Electricity Market (NEM) is a wholesale energy market which transports electricity from power stations to consumers and large industrial users. The NEM interconnects Queensland, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, delivering 80% of all electricity consumption in Australia.
As detailed in ‘The Health of the National Electricity Market (PDF)’ late last year, across the NEM, the mix of generators is changing. The proportion of wind and solar fuelled generators is rising and the proportion of gas, coal and hydro generators is declining.
Power stations operated by AGL contribute to the NEM from coal, gas, wind, solar and hydro sources. At a glance, this is our contribution to the NEM.
