As one of Australia’s leading integrated energy companies, and Australia’s largest greenhouse gas emitter, AGL has a responsibility to be transparent about climate change.

We need to measure and track our performance, and the International ‘CDP’ framework is one of the ways that we’re able to do this.

What is CDP?

The CDP, formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project, is a global disclosure program that enables companies, cities, states and regions to measure and manage their environmental impacts.

The data reported under CDP covers over 50 countries and is used by CDP’s network of policy makers and investors representing over US$100 trillion.

In 2018 over 7,000 companies disclosed through CDP which now represents over 50% of global market capitalisation.

CDP’s 2018 Climate Change survey covered the 2016-2017 financial year and is the first to be aligned with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate Related Disclosures (TCFD).

How are we tracking?

AGL has responded to the CDP climate change survey since 2011 and maintained a high level of disclosure which continues to be recognised in our above average score. The CDP scores business on their responses from A to D-, taking into account a company’s approach from disclosure to awareness, management and finally to leadership.

"Last week scores were announced for submissions to CDP in 2018. AGL again achieved a score of B which puts us in the management band, higher than the electricity sector average of C and the Oceania regional average of C."

This score represents the work that has been done over the past few years aligning our business with understanding the risks and opportunities of climate change.

Particularly our robust greenhouse gas policy, reporting against the TCFD, and our continued development of new renewable generation.
