We know that around one in five Australians (4.3 million people) have a disability – and not every disability is visible.

Disability inclusion is about understanding the relationship between the way people function and how they work, and making sure everybody has the same opportunities to participate in every aspect of life.

This week, AGL committed to The Valuable 500, making us the first Australian energy company to join the collective.

The Valuable 500 is a global movement putting disability inclusion on the business leadership agenda. The movement is calling on 500 of the most influential business leaders and their brands to ignite systematic change by unlocking the business, social and economic value of the 1.3 billion people living with disabilities around the world.

The Valuable 500 has been joined by over 300 large private-sector corporations to date, including Unilever, Microsoft, Barclays, Shell, Bloomberg and Sony.

Brett Redman, AGL’s CEO and Managing Director, said committing to The Valuable 500 reaffirms our commitment to improving disability inclusion, and positions us as an industry leader on this important initiative.

‘We’re proud to be the first Australian energy company to join The Valuable 500’s global CEO collective focusing on improving disability inclusion,’ Brett said.

‘We recently launched our new Disability Action Plan and Disability Working Group, which are helping us drive important programs and initiatives across the business.

‘We look forward to standing alongside The Valuable 500 to take a stand on this important initiative within the energy industry, and society more broadly.’

How we’re driving disability inclusion

We're committed to building a safe and inclusive work environment for all our people.

We recently launched a new Disability Action Plan, which has been created in partnership with the Australian Network on Disability and will be driven by Damien Nicks, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Sponsor of Disability.

The plan outlines AGL’s key focus areas for improving disability inclusion in FY21-22. We've also established a new AGL Disability Working Group, which will help us to drive important initiatives across the business.
