Submission on the AEMC's maintaining life support customer registration when switching rule change

AGL Energy (AGL) welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) maintaining life support customer registration when switching rule change.

The rule change consultation requested feedback on a rule change request from the New South Wales Energy and Water Ombudsman that aims to facilitate the transfer of life support information when life support customers change premises or retailer.

AGL does not support the rule change in its current form as it only looks at one aspect of life support customers registration and ignores the fundamental connection with any applicable concessions and the concession registration process. AGL has suggested an alternative rule change that would ensure that life support customers were on the most appropriate deal with their retailer through an annual plan assessment. It is a solution that can be implemented without significant B2B changes and retains the customer centric focus that is required for life support customers.
