AGL's submission to the Australian Government's Future Gas Strategy

AGL Energy (AGL) welcomes the opportunity to comment on to the Australian Government’s Future Gas Strategy.  AGL is broadly supportive of the Australian Government’s ambition to develop a Future Gas Strategy to provide a medium- to long-term plan for gas production, consumption, and substitution that can also support Australia’s climate goals.

In our submission, we have made various suggestions regarding key issues that we encourage the government to consider as part of the process of forming the strategy, including the importance of electrification, especially in the residential and commercial sectors, and ensuring that the Future Gas Strategy focuses on supporting sectors where it is currently difficult to substitute natural gas (e.g. high-temperature industrial processes, such as those for cement kilns and petrochemical plants), rather than sectors where electrification is the more likely decarbonisation pathway.
