AGL welcomes the New South Wales Government’s review of Long Duration Storage (LDS) and emphasizes the crucial role of technologies like Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES) in Australia’s energy transition. PHES offers deep storage, reliability, and essential system services with a significantly longer asset life compared to shorter duration technologies. AGL supports maintaining the current 8-hour duration definition for LDS to ensure stability and attract investment. Changing this definition could undermine investment confidence and slow the development of critical projects. Additionally, AGL advocates for stable regulatory settings, streamlined approval processes, and diverse storage options to meet future energy needs effectively.
