AGL In the Hunter Region

Community

We’re proud to be a major economic contributor in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales and an active partner in the growth and diversity of the community.

A diversifying economy in the Hunter Region

The Newcastle and Lower Hunter region is reinventing itself as a modern, diverse city, distinct from its industrial, coal and steel heritage. The Upper Hunter has been a proud mining and electricity generation powerhouse for many years, driving prosperity in the area.

The region as a whole is in transition, with the economy diversifying towards emerging technologies, alternative energy resources, high-tech primary industry and rural tourism.

Partnerships and Community Fund

We proudly support organisations that make valuable contributions to the Hunter Region. We focus our support on resilient communities, climate action, cost-of-living and First Nations empowerment. Our partnerships include supporting the Aussie Ark animal sanctuary and Singleton Neighbourhood Centre.

Our Community Fund also provides additional support for local events and organisations which contribute to our communities. Applications are open three times a year and run through the months of March, July and October.

Once filled in, please send your AGL Community Grants application form to: AGLCommunity@agl.com.au

Muswellbrook Pumped Hydro Energy Storage – Community Engagement Stalls

Muswellbrook Pumped Hydro Pty Ltd (MPH), a joint venture between AGL and Idemitsu Australia, is seeking community feedback on a proposed pumped hydro energy storage project at the former Muswellbrook Coal Mine site. We invite local residents to visit our community engagement stalls in Muswellbrook this month. This is a great opportunity to learn about the project, ask questions, and provide your feedback.

Safety induction for visitors

We're proud of our safety record in the region. To help us maintain our high standards, we require all visitors to Bayswater Power Station to complete an online induction outlining the rules you must follow onsite.

To request an online induction, email  contractors1@agl.com.au.

With Liddell Power Station now in a decommissioning phase, access to site is limited and only provided on an as-needs basis.

Remember that your site contact needs to advise our security staff of the dates and times you are visiting.

Volunteers for hire

Our employees in the Hunter Region make use of their day of annual volunteer leave to support Hunter organisations that matter to them. Over the years our people have helped with initiatives like tree planting, setting up for community events, and distributing food and hampers to those in need.

If your community organisation could benefit from volunteer support, email us at aglhunter@agl.com.au.

Inclusion matters

Our network of volunteers are driving events and initiatives to help everyone feels safe, included and valued at work and in our community.

They host a calendar of events and celebrations including drag nights, Diwali celebrations, Colour Runs and barbeques, continually advancing representation and fostering an inclusive culture.

Together, we’re creating a culture where everyone can feel valued and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and skills.
