AGL has responded to AEMO's request for the AER to make a T-1 reliability instrument for SA for the period January – March 2024. AGL's view is that the reliability instrument should not be made.
AEMO has identified a forecast reliability gap period of January - March 2024 in SA. If the AER accepts AEMO's request, retailers in SA will be required to have contracts in place by around 1 January 2023, to cover their anticipated customer load in the forecast reliability gap period.
AGL considers that AEMO has erred in forecasting a reliability gap, as it has classified certain incoming generation projects as "anticipated" instead of "committed*". Had the projects been treated as "committed*", no reliability gap would be determined.
